In my artwork, I emphasize bright colors & whimsical points of view. I push hard on my skills, my vulnerabilities, and my "voice" as an artist. My work is primarily in watercolor, but I also see scenes as photographs, drawings or abstract interpretations. I paint outdoors and my studio. As you view my art, please use "Wall Preview" to see how it could look on your wall. Really fun!
Thank you for your interest in my artwork. I'm very honored to have been given my artistic gifts. My style emphasizes the intricacies of nature and my awe in observing life around me. My art tells a story of my love and joy about being here at this time and celebrating God’s abundance.
I have drawn, painted and have been interested in photography all my life. I studied under great teachers and have dedicated thousands of hours to perfecting my craft. Museums and art associations have honored me by including my work in their exhibits. To see some of these, check out “Exhibits and Recognition”.
My watercolor paintings are generally “traditional” watercolors using transparent paints on archival acid free watercolor paper. Sometimes I use colored pencils, watercolor pencils, watercolor markers, gouache or other water media materials on my paintings. I feel my artistic family history actually stretches back to the artists of the caves in France and Spain – tens of thousands of years ago. They were water media artists, too. They used some of the same mineral pigments that we still use today. I feel so close to my ancestral art family. I'm indebted to them for sharing their stories on the walls of their caves.
I too love sharing my artwork and these stories with others. You can connect to my blog “Art In the Center” via the blog link at the top of the page. It’s my belief that art should be a part of everyone’s life. If we spent more time sharing our cultural experiences—our art, our fabric, our music, our dance, poetry, fiction, and foods—we would learn to empathize and respect our neighbors around the world.
An early passion of mine was photography. I built a darkroom for myself to process my own film and print my own photographs when I was about 12. I studied photography through college and have always appreciated the unique point of view one has via a view-finder behind the camera.
I aim to create every day, and I learn something new every day! To learn more, check out “About Jane M. Mason.”
