Just because my work is "pretty" doesn't mean it is not created while struggling for solutions to the serious crises in the world--even my little small world. I create work that challenges me to stretch and learn. That’s part of the journey: the mental process is circular. I seek to learn more about the world and my worldview through my work. Then I study my work to create questions about the world.
My artistic drive is from within and is never completely absent from my words and actions.
In my art and as a personal outlook on life, I plan to never lose connection to my five-year-old child inside me.
I spend hours creating artwork and learning every day. I have learned through trial and error, and endless experimentation.
And I have learned from great artists. Artists whom I have been privileged to study under include: Jim Alinder, Gerald Brommer, Antonioni Catelina, Carol Carter, Joe Fettingus, Frank Francese, Homer Hacker, Paul Jackson, Margaret Keller, Nita Leland, Zenaide Luhr, Billyo O’Donnell, Steven Quiller, Charles Reid, and Janet Rogers.
I studied photography and fine arts in my undergraduate coursework at the University of Nebraska. I had four semesters of watercolor painting at the I studied drawing, painting, art history and Italian in my time at Santa Reparata in Florence, Italy. I received my Master’s Degree in Museum Studies from Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts.
I was a contributing writer to The Artist’s Magazine for years and wrote for other national art magazines. The International Biographical Center, Cambridge, England selected me as one of the 200 outstanding artists of the 20th century.
