“Art makes me think and work hard.
My artistic drive is a constant hum within me; never completely absent from my words and actions. There is no comparison to the satisfaction of creating something exquisite that has never existed before.”
Jane M. Mason specializes in watercolor. She loves color, a sense of whimsy, the complexity of nature, and the challenges and transparency of watercolor. She is a devoted student of master American watercolorist of the 20th Century, John Singer Sargent.
Her subject matter ranges from florals and landscapes to seascapes and abstractions, with a great deal of attention to fruits and vegetables. She has participated in dozens of fine art shows and museum exhibits and has won regional and national awards.
She won her first art contest as a student at Joslyn Art Museum when she was five years old. That early educational experience initiated her love of art, museums, and art history. As an undergraduate she studied fine art and photography, and continued her studies with a master’s degree in Museum Studies from Harvard University.
For over 20 years, she has taught at various venues including Cleveland Botanical Garden, Missouri Botanical Garden, and Illinois Central College. She has presented lectures at art galleries and institutions such as Harvard University. She continues to teach online and in person
Jane has written for numerous magazines including ArtMag, ArtCalendar, Artist’s Magazine, Watercolor Magic, and Watercolor Magazine.
