As a small child, I started taking art classes at Joslyn Museum in Omaha. Every Saturday morning I was at the museum for a class. As a five-year-old, I won my first art contest and distinctly remember the drawing I had created being used on the cover of the spring catalog for Joslyn Museum.
Although I couldn’t articulate it at the time, I felt thrilled by this success that had arisen from my weekly classes to the museum.
Before and after my classes I wandered the galleries to see the art. (Yes. Things were different then. A five-year-old could never wander galleries alone now... but that's adifferent story. The guards knew me and I them. It worked out.) I felt welcomed by the galleries, objects, and the beautiful majesty of the architecture of the building-- I felt at home. It’s a feeling about museums that has never left me.
My childlke enthusiasm for art and happiness creating art is in my DNA now. It's part of every piece of art I create.
In addition to my erly studies at teh museum, additional artists I have studied under include: Jim Alinder, Gerald Brommer, Antonioni Catelina, Carol Carter, Cheng-Khee Chee, Joe Fettingus, Frank Francese, Lois Gruberger, Keith Jacobshagen, Paul Jackson, Margaret Keller, Nita Leland, Skip Lawrence, Zenaide Luhr, Steven Quiller and Janet Walsh.
In addition to those named above, artists who inspire me are: Emile Bernard, Gian Lorenzo Bernini, Michelangelo Buonnarroti, Mary Cassatt, Paul Gauguin, Artemisia Gentileschi, Winslow Homer, Wassily Kandinsky, Dorthea Lange, John Marin, Tommaso Massaccio, Claude Monet, Georgia O’Keefe, John Singer Sargent, Alfred Steiglitz. Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, Vincent Van Gogh, Johannes Vermeer, Leonardo Da Vinci, and James Whistler.
